£1,000 a night hooker jailed for tax evasion

A £1,000 a night Knightsbridge based prostitute was jailed for tax evasion yesterday, after making £300,000 in two years on the game; reports the Daily Mail today.

Donna Asutaitis, aged 29, originally from Coventry, was jailed for 16 months for theft in relation to tax fraud – after failing to declare her earnings to the taxman.  She had advertised her services on websites and through various escort agencies.  In court she admitted defrauding the taxman of £120,000 tax between April 2005 and January 2007.

HMRC prosecutors initially claimed that Asutaitis made £870,000 over five years and owed £315,000 in tax.  However the court accepted that her period of undeclared earnings spanned only two years.  The tax investigators believe Asutaitis was earning around £3,000 a week on average, and charging up to £1,000 a night.  When she bought her flat in Knightsbridge she had paid a £110,000 deposit in cash.  When police raided it they seized £72,000 in cash, along with expensive jewellery allegedly given to her by clients.  In a 2nd raid in 2010 they found £8,350 in cash in her flat and another £50,000 in a safety deposit box.

The court will decide in November how much Asutaitis must pay the taxman.  It will almost certainly be confiscated out of the £130,000 already seized from her.
