HM Revenue & Customs have tasked 10 private commercial debt collection agencies with collecting £1bn of tax debts. HMRC will be paying the debt collectors £70m.  The agencies will be chasing the smaller and older liabilities, with the taxman’s specialist Debt Management Unit, Enforcement Office and Solicitor’s Office focusing on the larger debts.

Following a pilot scheme last year the taxman has now taken on: Advantis Credit, Apex Credit, Close Credit Management, Clanchatton, Hillesden, Fredrickson International, Rossendales, Commercial Collection Services, Fairfax Solicitors and iQor Recovery Services.
