Clothing Chain Chief Jailed for Tax Evasion

The managing director of clothing chain Punkyfish, was jailed for 18 months today for a half million pound tax fraud.

Kemal Gediz, aged 49 of Forest Road, East London, deliberately under-declared the business’ sales to the taxman.  The tax returns showed turnover of £1.2 million when the company records proved that sales were in fact £7.3 million; meaning the company evaded paying VAT of nearly £500,000.  Gediz also pocketed around £68,000 PAYE tax and national insurance contributions deducted from his employees’ wages.
