“Ghost” Online Trader Convicted

An online golf trolley and garden furniture retailer was convicted of a £323,000 tax fraud at Hull Crown Court today.

Daniel Waslin (aged 35) of Cottingham, East Riding of Yorkshire, ran two online e-tailing business: UK Leisure World, and Active Sport and Leisure – selling remote control golf trolleys, and garden furniture.  Despite sales totalling £2.6M from 2010 – 2015, he didn’t declare the income to HMRC.

The goods were imported from China.  HM Revenue & Customs’ import checks raised suspicions about Waslin’s activities.  This led to a full investigation and the discovery of the true scale of his activities and the extent of his tax fraud.

Waslin pleaded guilty to the Fraudulent Evasion of Value Added Tax.   He has repaid the £323,000 fiddled tax to HMRC.  He was sentenced today to two years in prison (suspended for two years), and 250 hours unpaid work.
