Prison for Tax Fraud Haulier and Accountant

An accountant and haulier from Lincolnshire have been jailed after an investigation by HM Revenue and Customs uncovered a £130,000 tax fraud.

Accountant Christopher Alecock, 63, and Barry Anderson, 70, both from Wisbech, ran a haulage business: HL & RV Anderson Ltd. Between July 2012 and June 2015, they deducted £60,000 of PAYE (Income Tax and National Insurance Contributions) from their staff’s wages, but did not pay it over to HMRC. They also used an old deregistered VAT number on invoices: so as to fiddle £69,000 of VAT.

This month they were both found guilty of two counts of cheating the public revenue. Alecock was sentenced to 3 years imprisonment and Anderson got a jail term of 30 months. HMRC is taking action to recover the criminal proceeds of the frauds.
