Security Boss banged up for tax fraud

David Peter Stewardson (aged 55) from Mayfield in Midlothian has been jailed for over three years following an investigation by HM Revenue & Customs into a £1million VAT and Income Tax fraud.

His company provided security for major UK music festivals: Glastonbury, T in the Park, Reading and Leeds festivals; as well as the Southampton boat show and the Ideal Homes shows.  But he did not register with the taxman.  He falsified the company invoices using a cancelled VAT number, so as to collect VAT from his customers; which he then pocketed.  The VAT evaded was £503,811 and the income tax dodged was £541,971.

Mr Stewardson pleaded guilty to the fraudulent evasion of over £1million in VAT and Income Tax, and was sentenced to 45 months.
