Before the Old Year could fade away, a HM Revenue and Customs press release issued today proudly boasted that “almost 700 tax fraudsters and benefit cheats were convicted this year”.
From January to November, HMRC criminal investigations produced 690 successful convictions – up from 477 in 2012. The 690 benefit and tax convicts got jail sentences totalling 355 years.
