Paul Lynam B.A. (Hons)

Paul has 26 years' full time experience of tax enquiry work.

Prior to starting Lynam Tax, Paul was a Director at KPMG (one of the UK's Big 4 accountancy firms), where he led a large and successful specialist Tax Investigation Defence team; for over 10 years. Whilst at KPMG Paul was responsible for developing the Negotiation Skills of its European tax practice (over 5,000 people) and he attended numerous Negotiation Skills courses (including Harvard Business School), as well as developing KPMG’s own training.

Before that Paul was with the Inland Revenue for 13 years from 1986; as a Fully Trained Inspector of Taxes, working in Yorkshire and the Midlands. He held several posts in the elite Special Compliance Office (now Specialist Investigations); dealing with some of the largest and most complex Civil Investigation of Serious Tax Fraud (Code of Practice 9) and Tax Avoidance (Code of Practice 8) cases, and also successfully leading several tax prosecutions.

Paul is a highly skilled tax professional. He is adept at uncovering HMRC’s key concerns, getting them to focus on the material issues, and moving cases to speedier resolutions for the benefit of his clients.

Paul lectures regularly to professional bodies. He is a General Affiliate of the ICAEW (Institute of Chartered Accountants for England and Wales) and is also a Consultant to the ICAEW's Tax Faculty referral scheme for members; specialising in Tax Appeals, Enquiries and Serious Tax Investigations.
