Medics Tax Investigation yield extra £1m

The special Tax Amnesty for doctors and dentists, properly called the Tax Health Plan (THP), but often known as the Medics Tax Amnesty, ended in March 2010 and yielded £10m, including £1m from one doctor. Since then HM Revenue & Customs have started investigating medics that did not register – the so-called “2nd wave”.

The taxman sent hundreds of letters to doctors and dentists in May: “where there is concern around their compliance”.  Already further disclosures have brought in another £1m: according to Accountancy Age.  Medical practitioners with tax irregularities to disclose may have been particularly incentivised to confess following widespread publicity about a number of their peers being arrested by HMRC.
